Walnut Canyon National Monument (AZ)

Another cool stop. Inhabited until around 1260 AD – these cliff dwellings are quite different than Bandelier. Over 300 dwellings existed in this canyon on both the north and south sides. They grew cops on the mesa, collected and stored water from rain and snow melt (no springs close to the village). Climate change and exhausted resources the likely reason for the population to have moved on from this area.
